Revault vs. LockMyPix
LockMyPix and Revault both protect private media and documents on a phone. Their published cryptography, recovery choices and emergency-vault behavior differ. This comparison separates everyday convenience from guarantees that require an independent security review.

| What matters | Revault | LockMyPix |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile platforms | Native iOS and Android implementations, with a separate web app. Store availability depends on release. | The product website links to Android and iOS versions. [1] |
| Account requirements | No Revault account, email, or registration on mobile. Optional sync uses your Apple or Google account. The web app has a separate passkey account. | The privacy policy says users need not supply contact information for local use. Optional cloud and password-recovery services add their own account or email requirements. [2] |
| Published cryptography | AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption, random vault master keys, PBKDF2-SHA-256 key wrapping and HKDF-SHA-256 streaming file keys. | LockMyPix specifies AES in CTR mode for imported photos, videos and documents. The cited overview does not publish a complete authenticated-encryption or key-derivation construction. [1] |
| Cloud and phone migration | Local by default. Each vault independently opts into private iCloud on iOS or Google Drive appDataFolder on Android. Cloud stores remain separate across platforms. Independently encrypted .qvault transfers move data across iOS and Android. | The backup guide describes Google Drive on Android and iCloud on iOS, with AES-CTR-256 encrypted backups. It directs cross-platform moves through a backup file. [3] |
| Recovery | A vault recovery key and an available encrypted cloud copy or backup. Support cannot bypass the encryption; device patterns and unlock secrets do not sync. | Optional email recovery is described in its privacy policy, which says an encrypted password is stored on its servers for that feature and can be deleted by disabling recovery. [2] |
| Emergency access | Safe Exit opens a designated vault while removing other vaults’ local unlock keys, cached files and queued changes. Cloud copies remain; this is not guaranteed forensic erasure. | The advertised Fake Vault opens separate decoy content with a different credential. Its product description does not describe deleting the primary vault during that action. [1] |
| Organization and appearance | Folders, tags and filename search inside an unlocked vault. Included icon presets and an in-app name; iOS Home Screen labels stay fixed. | Folders, subfolders, app disguise and fingerprint or face unlock are advertised. Check the current platform and plan before relying on a particular feature. [1] |
| Privacy disclosures | The native implementations contain no advertising or analytics SDKs. Store billing and explicitly selected cloud or sharing services still process the metadata needed for their roles. | The privacy policy discloses Google Analytics/Firebase for monitoring and Google advertising when ads are shown, with monitoring settings described in the app. [2] |
A vault that starts on your device.
You want independently keyed, pattern-isolated vaults, opt-in syncing per vault, portable encrypted snapshots and sharing with a separately communicated secret.
A different workflow fits better.
You want LockMyPix’s established photo-vault workflow, PIN or biometric unlock options, folder organization and advertised disguise and decoy features.
Know the tradeoffs.
Revault’s Safe Exit can remove other vaults’ local access and unsynced data; it requires careful recovery planning. A decoy vault is a different workflow. Neither app’s disguise feature removes operating-system records or guarantees protection on a compromised phone.
No app can protect unlocked files from a compromised device. Exporting a decrypted file creates a copy outside the vault; deleting access cannot recall copies someone already saved. Keep recovery secrets and tested backups separately.
