Private camera and file imports

Take photos and videos inside an unlocked vault, import selected items from Photos, or send files from another app’s share sheet.

Save a document scan or personal video directly where you want to keep it. Revault brings camera capture, selected photo imports and file sharing into the unlocked vault, so you can organize new material without first creating an ordinary gallery copy.

Capture inside your vault

Use the plus action in an unlocked vault to take a photo or record a video. Captures use private app staging before encryption and do not automatically enter your device gallery. The operating system’s camera and microphone permissions still apply.

Import only what you choose

Pick photos and videos with the native photo picker, or select documents from Files. Revault encrypts imported copies into the current vault. Existing gallery and provider originals remain where they were; importing does not remove them.

Share into a locked vault

Choose Revault in another app’s share sheet, enter the destination vault’s pattern, and import into only that matching vault. The iOS share extension encrypts the import before handing it to the main app. Your other vault names are not presented as a destination list.

Choose capture or import based on where the original should live

Capture inside an unlocked vault when you want a new photo or video to enter Revault without automatically creating a normal gallery item. Import when the file already exists in Photos, Files or another app. These routes have different consequences: importing makes a protected copy but does not remove the source, its photo backups or copies in the sending application.

Example: photograph a document without mixing it into your camera roll

Open the destination vault, use the plus button to take a photo, and check the full document is readable in the private preview. Crop or rotate it inside Revault if needed. Decide whether metadata stripping or automatic import naming suits this vault before the next capture. Those options change the vault copy; they do not make visible personal information disappear from the document.

Check permissions, storage and completion

Camera capture needs operating-system permission, and video also needs microphone access where applicable. A simulator or device without a usable camera cannot provide real capture; import an existing file instead. Large videos may require working space as well as encrypted storage. If encryption is interrupted, do not assume the file was saved: reopen the vault and verify it before deleting an original elsewhere.

Practical checklist

  • Choose the destination vault and folder before starting a capture or import.
  • Review per-vault optimization, metadata stripping and automatic naming for new imports.
  • Confirm saved files open correctly before removing provider originals or recently deleted copies.

Frequently asked questions

Does importing a photo remove it from my gallery?

No. Revault encrypts a copy. The original remains in Photos or the source provider, and may also exist in their backups and recently deleted areas. Review those separately after checking the vault copy and your recovery plan.

Can I send a file to Revault from another app?

Yes. Use the system share sheet and choose Revault. Unlock the destination with its pattern; other vault names are not offered as a general list. Files then enter that matching vault’s encrypted import flow.

What happens when I reach my file allowance?

The app checks the receiving vault’s allowance when you attempt an addition. At the free limit it presents the upgrade flow; a multi-file import must fit the remaining allowance. This is separate from file size and available device space.
