A larger display should make a private collection easier to use. Revault adapts navigation, thumbnail grids and editing controls to the available space while keeping access scoped to the vault you unlocked. The encryption and recovery model stays the same on a phone or tablet.
Navigation that fits the screen
iPad has a native sidebar for Files, Favourites, Settings, adding and searching. Wider Android windows use a navigation rail; narrow windows use bottom tabs. These destinations belong to the current vault and do not reveal other vault names.
More room for your collection
Compact phone windows keep two thumbnail columns. Wider file browsers fit additional columns, while forms, paywalls and editing controls keep a readable width. List view remains available for filenames and details.
Ready for a changing window
The iPhone Duo layout follows the available width as the display changes. Android rotation and window resizing retain the foreground vault session, and editor controls reflow around the preview. A resized pattern gesture is discarded rather than submitted across two layouts.
How it works
Open the app and unlock the vault you want to work in.
Use the sidebar, navigation rail or bottom tabs appropriate to your current window.
Choose sync separately if you want the same encrypted collection on another device.
Read and organise private files with more room
A tablet can be useful for reviewing a passport scan, comparing document copies or editing a personal photograph without exporting it to another application. Revault keeps thumbnail browsing separate from list view: use the grid to recognise an image, and switch to the list when its filename and details matter. Wider browsers fit more columns instead of stretching a pair of phone-sized cards across the entire display.
Navigation belongs to the unlocked vault
On iPad, the sidebar provides Files, Favourites and Settings alongside add and search actions. It can collapse when the available window becomes narrow. Android changes between a navigation rail in wider windows and bottom navigation in compact windows. These are ways to move around the current vault; they are not a directory of every private collection on the device.
Folding, rotation and smaller windows
iPhone Duo uses the actual available browser width to choose a comfortable grid and keeps its floating controls centred. The app does not depend on a fixed phone resolution. On Android, rotation and window-size changes remeasure the current foreground screen without forcing another pattern entry. Editors keep their draft state while controls and previews resize. An unfinished pattern is cleared if its dot positions change, so a gesture cannot combine two different layouts.
The operating system still controls application lifecycle. A resize that leaves Revault in the foreground differs from switching to another app or suspending its process. Backgrounding locks the vault, and restoring a recreated process requires unlocking again. Inactivity locking remains enabled, with the timeout you chose for this vault.
A tablet is a separate device in your recovery plan
Installing Revault on a tablet does not automatically make a phone’s vault available there. Keep a recovery phrase and an independent encrypted backup. For same-platform devices, optional iCloud or private Google Drive sync uses the appropriate native cloud account. Revault Cloud can connect iOS and Android with the vault’s separate connection code and recovery phrase. Enrol a local pattern on the receiving device, and verify the files before relying on that copy.
Practical checklist
Use list view when you need to distinguish similar document names.
Check portrait, landscape and your preferred window size before a long editing session.
Keep recovery material separately and configure device sync explicitly if you want it.
Frequently asked questions
Does opening the sidebar reveal my other vaults?
No. The sidebar and navigation rail contain destinations inside the vault you unlocked. Other personal vaults and their names remain outside that session.
Does unfolding a phone upload my files?
No. A layout change does not change storage providers or enable syncing. Each vault stays local unless you explicitly choose an optional sync provider, share or export.
Will a larger inactivity timeout stop background locking?
No. The timeout applies to an open foreground vault. Leaving Revault still ends the unlocked session, including on a tablet or folding phone.
