Image brightener

Lighten a dark photo with exposure, shadows, midtones, contrast and auto levels, and see it change live. It runs on your device and uploads nothing.

Loading the tool…

Photos taken indoors or at night often come out too dark. Add one and move the sliders: exposure lifts everything, shadows lightens only the dark parts, and auto levels stretches the picture to use the full range from black to white. The preview updates as you drag, and the file you save is adjusted at its full size.

What happens to your data

  • Your photo is adjusted by your browser. It is not uploaded to Revault or anywhere else.
  • The saved file is new, so camera data in the original, such as location, date and device, is not copied into it.
  • This page keeps nothing. Close or reload it and your photo is gone.

Limits to know about

  • Brightening cannot bring back detail that the camera never recorded. Very dark areas get lighter, and they may also look grainy.
  • Parts of a photo that are already pure white stay white. Lowering exposure does not recover them.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between exposure and shadows?

Exposure changes the whole picture, so bright areas can wash out. Shadows lightens mostly the dark areas and leaves the bright ones nearly alone, which is often better for a photo with a bright window and a dark room.

What does auto levels do?

It finds the darkest and brightest parts of the picture and stretches them to black and white. That removes a hazy, flat look. A picture that already uses the full range stays as it is.

Is the saved photo the same size as my original?

Yes, unless your browser cannot handle a picture that large, in which case the tool tells you and saves a slightly smaller one. The preview you see while adjusting is smaller, only to keep it quick.
