PDF metadata remover
See the author, title and software details stored in a PDF, then remove them. It runs on your device and uploads nothing.
A PDF often records who wrote it, what program made it, when it was created and edited, and sometimes older saved versions of its details. Add a PDF to see what it holds, then download a copy with that document information removed. The pages are left as they are.
How it works
- Add a PDF by dropping it here, pasting it or choosing a file.
- Read the details it holds, and type a new title if you want one.
- Remove the metadata and download the cleaned copy.
What happens to your data
- The PDF is read and rewritten on your device. It is not uploaded, and the tool makes no network request.
- Nothing is stored. Your file and the cleaned copy disappear when you close the tab.
- The cleaned copy is a new file written from scratch, so older saved versions of the document information are not carried over.
Limits to know about
- Only the document information and XMP metadata are removed. Text, images, annotations and form data on the pages are not changed, and photos inside the PDF can still carry their own camera data.
- Rewriting the file breaks any digital signature in it. Password-protected PDFs are not supported.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is removed?
The title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer and dates, any custom document properties, and the XMP metadata block. The file is then saved again as a whole, which also leaves out earlier saved versions of those details.
Will the pages look the same?
Yes. Page content is not touched, and the tool checks that the new file opens and has the same number of pages. Open it before you rely on it, as with any edited file.
Does this hide what is written in the document?
No. Names inside the text, comments, form fields and images stay. This only removes the hidden details about the file itself.
