Revault vs. Keepsafe Photo Vault
If you want a Keepsafe alternative that needs no account on mobile and keeps the recovery key with you, Revault is built for that, with trade-offs listed below. Keepsafe combines a photo vault with its own cloud backup and protected shared albums. Revault starts with local encrypted vaults and lets you choose native-cloud sync and individual encrypted shares separately.

| What matters | Revault | Keepsafe Photo Vault |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile platforms | Native iOS and Android implementations; store release availability may vary. | Photo Vault is available for iOS and Android. [1] |
| Account requirements | No Revault account, email or sign-up. A device-bound 5 × 5 pattern opens only its matching vault. | Keepsafe account access uses an email access code. PIN or pattern access and optional biometrics protect the vault. [2] |
| Published encryption | AES-256-GCM; device pattern plus a random device secret; PBKDF2-SHA-256 wrapping and HKDF-SHA-256 streaming file encryption. | Keepsafe documents 256-bit AES encryption at rest and encrypted backups. That page does not specify an AES mode or the complete key-derivation design. [2] |
| Cloud and recovery | Local storage by default. Optional private iCloud on iOS or Google Drive appDataFolder on Android. The web cloud is separate. An independent recovery key is required if device access is lost. | Keepsafe’s cloud backs up uploaded items. Email access codes support account access and PIN reset. [2] |
| Sharing | Share an independent encrypted snapshot and send its secret separately. Keep recovery instructions and backups yourself; there is no trusted-contact account recovery. | Protected shared albums are advertised on the product page. [1] |
| Saving device space | Optional per-vault photo and video optimization before encryption. Only newly imported copies change; source files remain untouched. | Premium Space Saver keeps originals in Keepsafe’s cloud and smaller local copies, downloading the original when opened. [3] |
| Free capacity | 2 vaults and 15 files per vault. Paid access expands limits; unlock, recovery and export remain available. | The product page lists Basic at 200 photos and Premium at 10,000 photos. Store and plan terms apply. [1] |
A vault that starts on your device.
You want to keep photos, videos and documents in pattern-isolated vaults without creating a Revault account, and manage your own recovery keys.
A different workflow fits better.
You prefer email-based account access, the convenience of Keepsafe’s cloud backup, and a familiar photo-album workflow.
Know the tradeoffs.
Revault’s iCloud and Android Drive stores do not automatically sync with each other. Cross-platform phone migration creates a new encrypted copy; file sharing is a separate snapshot. Keepsafe’s account recovery and cloud workflow may be more convenient if you do not want to manage an independent vault recovery key.
No app can protect unlocked files from a compromised device. Exporting a decrypted file creates a copy outside the vault; deleting access cannot recall copies someone already saved. Keep recovery secrets and tested backups separately.
