A private photo editor inside your vault

Crop, rotate and flip photos, then adjust brightness and contrast without leaving your unlocked vault or uploading to an editing service.

Illustrative preview. Screens vary by platform.

Frame a personal photo or crop a document scan where you already keep it private. Revault’s lightweight editor works inside your unlocked iOS or Android vault, with on-device previews and a deliberate save before the selected item changes.

Crop and frame

Keep the original frame or choose 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9. Drag the photo to reposition the crop. The saved result uses the remaining full pixel dimensions, rather than the smaller preview shown on screen.

Simple adjustments

Rotate in 90-degree steps, flip horizontally, and adjust brightness and contrast with native controls. Reset returns unsaved changes to their starting point. Cancel closes the editor without replacing the stored item.

Keep editing on your device

Decrypted previews use private temporary storage. The editor does not send photos to an editing server or place its working copies in your gallery. Locking or backgrounding closes the editor and cleans up its private previews and working files.

Save one encrypted replacement

Save changes creates a PNG without the source’s embedded metadata, encrypts it, then replaces only the selected item. Its folder, tags and favourite status are retained. A failed render or save leaves the current item intact, and no extra file slot or Pro upgrade is needed.

Useful edits without an export-and-reimport workflow

A sideways document scan or poorly framed personal photo should not require moving a decrypted copy through a general editing app. Open Edit photo from the vault’s file actions or private preview, work with the native controls and save when satisfied. The lightweight tools focus on framing and basic tonal adjustments. They are not OCR, advanced retouching, perspective correction or a document-redaction system.

Example: improve a readable document photo

Rotate the page upright first, then choose a crop ratio and drag to keep the required information in frame. Adjust brightness and contrast gently, checking faint print and signatures instead of maximizing contrast indiscriminately. Reset discards the current unsaved adjustments; Cancel leaves the stored image unchanged. If authenticity or exact original appearance matters, retain an original-quality copy separately before committing changes.

Understand what Save changes commits

Saving renders the remaining full-resolution image to PNG without the source’s embedded metadata, encrypts it and replaces the selected item only after a successful commit. Folder placement, tags and favourite status stay with it. Optional sync can distribute the saved replacement to connected devices, while earlier backups and shares stay as they were. Saved edits cannot be rolled back in this editor, and PNGs may be larger than the source.

Practical checklist

  • Download the photo locally before editing if needed.
  • Check the crop and small details at a useful scale before saving.
  • Keep an independent original when you may need to undo a saved edit later.

Frequently asked questions

Does the editor send my private photo to an editing service?

No. Rendering and preview work happen on the device using private working storage. Optional sync transfers the resulting encrypted saved file afterward, according to that vault’s settings.

Can I undo an edit after saving?

Reset and Cancel apply before committing. Once saved, the editor does not retain an undo history of the original pixels. Recover an earlier version from an independently retained original or backup if you need it.

Why can an animated or HDR image be rejected?

The editor avoids silently flattening characteristics it cannot preserve safely. Animated, HDR/gain-map and otherwise unsupported input may fail instead of producing a misleading replacement. Keep the source and use an appropriate specialized tool when those characteristics matter.
