The two things recovery needs
You need the correct recovery phrase and a surviving encrypted copy of the vault: on this device, in its configured cloud provider or in an exported backup. The phrase alone cannot recreate files that no longer exist. Support cannot bypass the encryption or look up a local vault by name.
Restore access
- Keep the existing installation and encrypted files intact while you check your recovery options. Do not uninstall the app or delete the vault as a troubleshooting step.
- Choose the recovery, restore or connect flow that matches where your encrypted copy is stored. Select the encrypted backup when restoring a .qvault file, or connect the relevant native cloud or Revault Cloud vault.
- Enter the recovery phrase exactly as saved and follow the prompts to create a local pattern. A connected device has its own unlock setup; your old phone’s pattern is not a cloud password.
- Open several files and verify the collection before deleting an older copy. Store any newly issued recovery material separately from the backup.
Make a backup before you need it
Use the encrypted backup export in vault settings and save the .qvault file somewhere you control. Keep its recovery phrase separately: possession of both can permit recovery. Test restoring a non-sensitive collection before depending on a backup process.
Sync keeps devices current, including changes and deletions; it is not a substitute for an independent backup. If recovery fails, check that the phrase belongs to this vault and that the backup finished copying. Contact support with the error text and app version, never the phrase or backup contents.
